West Kerry Live is a fortnightly news magazine that focuses on the Dingle Peninsula in the mostly Westerly part of Europe, County Kerry in Ireland. This peninsula stretches over 30 miles west from the gateway towns of Killarney and Tralee. Dotted with hamlets and townlands there are a number of village centres. Two roads bring visitors and traffic into Dingle Town, the main N86 to the north and the smaller R561 that joins the N86 just west of Annascaul.
So much happens in West Kerry that I am always sad when I hear people refer to Dingle as a Tourist town. Many people are bussed into Dingle on a luxury coach, spend a short while in Dingle Town and are whisked off for a tour of the West of Dingle, Slea Head, Dunquin, views of Blasket Islands, a glimpse of the 'tourist' beehive huts, and then back East to the next stop.
If you are going to have any chance of understanding the true nature of this special part of West Kerry, then an overnight stay is essential and a couple more days are recommended.
